Based at the Schulich School of Engineering, EngSafety brings together expertise from across the University of Calgary to work with industry partners on safety challenges in high-risk environments. Our team explores practical ways to better understand these challenges and make work safer.

Estacio Pereira, Ph.D., P.Eng
Associate Professor – Schulich School of Engineering

Estacio is an Associate Professor at the Schulich School of Engineering and Academic Director of EngSafety. He is passionate about using engineering, technology, and education to solve real-world safety challenges. His work explores gamification, AI, and engineering controls to make workplaces safer. When he is not working on EngSafety, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters.

Thomas O’Neill
Professor – Faculty of Arts

Tom is a Professor of Industrial and Organizational Psychology at the University of Calgary and the Arts-Engineering Chair in High Performance Teamwork and Engineering Education. His work focuses on the human and organizational factors that shape safety and performance.
